What sets us apart Complimentary Orthodontic Consultation

When we remove your braces it will be one of your happiest days in your life!!! But, remember, treatment is not over. Your brand new  smile can change if you let teeth shift over time. Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you've put in so far.

Cooperation with the retainer wear is considered semi- permanent endevour. Yes, you will need to wear your retainers for a long time. Each patient retention protocol is a little different. You will be given instructions for full time wear (often only 8 weeks) and then night time only. Eventually it will be only few nights a month.  You will need to take your removable retainers out when you eat. There are different kinds of retainers for you to  choose. Dr Baker will discuss the best option for you.

Fixed Retainer

Bonded lingual retainers are cemented directly to the inside surface of your teeth. This is one of the best ways to prevent your lower teeth from shifting as it is permanently attached. The benefit of having a fixed retainer is that there is no issue with the cooperation or misplacement of the retainer. No danger of your doggie getting the hold of your retainer or being accidentaly thrown away.

Patients with bonded lingual retainers must be careful when biting. Bonding material may break due to incorrect biting and teeth can shift quickly. As with removable retainers, it is important to keep them clean. When brushing, make sure to carefully clean the inside of your lower teeth as well as the wire and don't forget to floss .

If your retainer breaks or becomes unglued don't try to adjust  it yourself. Call us immediately to schedule an appointment. Please remember to bring your retainer (wire)  with you if it becomes loose.

Essix Retainer

The Essix retainer is a clear removable retainer that fits over the entire arch of teeth. Similar to Invisalign® trays, Essix retainers have no wires and don't cover the roof of the mouth/palate. They are very esthetic and easy to wear. They can be used for other treatments as well, including minor tooth movement and temporary bridges.

Hawley Retainer

The Hawley retainer,  traditional retainer type, is a removable appliance made of a combination of metal wires and  acrylic, and is designed to keep your teeth in place. The acrylic is available in many colors and can be personalized with  fun stickers or sparkles.
